Chrome Extension – Chinese → Vietnamese Translator

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Chinese → Vietnamese Translator Chrome Extension ("Extension", "Service"). By installing, accessing, or using the Extension, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the Extension.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing the Extension from the Chrome Web Store or any other distribution channel, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and the developers of the Extension ("we", "us", "our").

2. Description of Service

The Extension is a browser tool that translates Chinese text into Vietnamese directly within web pages. It provides the following features:

Full Page Translation — Scans the current web page for Chinese text and replaces it with Vietnamese translations in-place.
Text Selection Translation — Translates selected Chinese text via a floating action button.
OCR Scan & Translate — Captures a screenshot of a user-selected page region, processes it through an OCR server, and renders the translated text back into the element.
Auto-Translate — Automatically translates Chinese text on user-specified domains upon page load.
Translation Modes — Supports rule-based conversion ("Chuyển ngữ") and AI-powered translation ("Dịch").

3. API Key Requirement

To use the translation features, you must obtain and configure a valid API key from zh2vi.com. We offer a FREE tier for all users, and you can obtain your key directly from our website. The API key is stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.sync and is used to authenticate requests to the translation API.

Important: You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your API key. Do not share your API key with others. Any activity performed using your API key is your responsibility. If you suspect unauthorized use of your API key, contact us immediately at [email protected].

4. API Server

All translation and OCR requests are processed exclusively through the API server at translate.zh2vi.com. The API URL is embedded into the Extension at build time and cannot be changed by the end user.

All API communication in production uses HTTPS (encrypted in transit). Your API key is transmitted only as an Authorization: Bearer header when calling our API and is never logged or stored on our servers.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Extension only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

Use the Extension to translate content that violates applicable laws or regulations.
Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Extension.
Use the Extension to scrape, harvest, or extract data from web pages in violation of those pages' terms of service.
Use the Extension for any automated, systematic, or high-volume data extraction purposes beyond personal translation use.
Share, sell, or redistribute your API key.
Use the Extension to translate content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers, APIs, or any connected systems.
Use the Extension to process or transmit illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or obscene content.

6. Translation Accuracy Disclaimer

No Guarantee of Accuracy: The translations provided by the Extension are generated by automated systems (rule-based conversion and/or AI models). We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or appropriateness of any translation.

Translations may contain errors, omissions, or contextually inappropriate results. You should not rely on the Extension's translations for:

Legal documents, contracts, or official correspondence
Medical information or health-related content
Financial decisions or transactions
Safety-critical instructions or warnings
Any situation where translation accuracy could result in harm, loss, or liability

For professional, legal, medical, or critical purposes, always consult a qualified human translator or subject matter expert.

7. Intellectual Property

The Extension, including its source code, design, logos, icons, and all related intellectual property, is owned by the developers at zh2vi.com and is protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Extension for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.

8. Third-Party Services and Links

The Extension may interact with or link to third-party services, including but not limited to:

Google Chrome Web Store (for distribution and updates)
zh2vi.com (for API key management, translation, and OCR services)

We do not control and are not responsible for the content, terms, privacy practices, or actions of any third-party services. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies.

9. Service Availability and Modifications

We strive to maintain continuous availability of the Extension and its associated API services. However, we do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free operation. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

Scheduled or emergency maintenance
Server outages or technical failures beyond our control
Updates to the Chrome browser or Chrome Web Store policies
Force majeure events

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes through the Extension popup or our website.

10. Rate Limits and API Usage

The zh2vi.com translation API may impose rate limits, usage quotas, or other restrictions to ensure fair usage and service stability. These limits may vary based on your API key tier or plan. Excessive or abusive usage may result in temporary or permanent suspension of your API key.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

The Extension will meet your specific requirements
The Extension will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
The results obtained from using the Extension will be accurate or reliable
Any defects or errors in the Extension will be corrected
The Extension is free of viruses or other harmful components

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPERS, OWNERS, OR CONTRIBUTORS OF THE EXTENSION BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

Your access to, use of, or inability to access or use the Extension
Any conduct or content of any third party
Inaccurate, offensive, or inappropriate translation results
Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your data or transmissions
Any other matter relating to the Extension

Our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Extension shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us (if any) for use of the Extension during the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the developers, owners, and contributors of the Extension from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

Your use of the Extension in violation of these Terms
Your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights
Any content you translate, process, or transmit using the Extension

14. Termination

These Terms are effective until terminated. We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service and your API key immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms.

Upon termination, your right to use the Extension will cease immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including but not limited to disclaimers, limitations of liability, and intellectual property provisions.

You may terminate these Terms at any time by uninstalling the Extension from your browser and discontinuing all use of the Service.

15. Updates to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice (such as updating the "Last updated" date or posting a notice on our website) before the new terms take effect.

What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion. Your continued use of the Extension after any changes to these Terms constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

16. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Extension developers operate, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of the applicable jurisdiction.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be replaced with a valid and enforceable provision that most closely reflects the original intent.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Extension and supersede all prior and contemporaneous agreements, representations, warranties, and understandings, whether written or oral.
